System Requirements

NT:NH is a 1.7.10 modpack. It runs on most hardware - but it benefits from a dedicated RAM allocation and a modern JVM. Below are the recommended specs.

Minecraft Version 1.7.10
Java Version Java 8 (64-bit)
Recommended RAM 4–6 GB allocated
Mod Loader Forge (included)
OS Windows · macOS · Linux
Disk Space ~2 GB free
Java 8 Required Minecraft 1.7.10 with Forge requires Java 8 specifically. Java 17 or 21 will not work. Make sure your launcher points to a 64-bit Java 8 installation - some launchers bundle their own.

Download & Install

Each GitHub release ships four archive formats. Pick the one that matches your launcher, or grab the Native archive if you want to manage things yourself. Click a tab below to see the step-by-step guide for that method.

Recommended Method Prism Launcher is free, open-source, and supports all major archive formats including MMC/Prism, CurseForge, and Modrinth packs. Use the MMC_Prism archive for best compatibility. Download Prism at prismlauncher.org.
1

Install Prism Launcher

Download and install Prism Launcher for your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux). During first launch Prism will ask you to log in to a Microsoft account. A valid, paid Minecraft account is required.

2

Download the MMC_Prism Archive

Head to the Downloads page and find the latest release. Under Assets, download the file ending in _MMC_Prism.zip. Save it somewhere accessible - your Downloads folder is fine.

3

Import into Prism

Open Prism Launcher. Click Add Instance in the top-left toolbar, then select the Import tab. Click Browse, select the ZIP you just downloaded, then click OK. Prism will download all required mods automatically.

Prism also accepts CurseForge and Modrinth archives via the same Import dialog - use whichever zip you have. MMC_Prism is always the preferred format.
4

Allocate RAM & Launch

Right-click the NT:NH instance → EditSettingsJava. Set maximum memory to at least 4096 MB (4 GB), ideally 5–6 GB. Hit Launch and wait for the first load - it takes a minute or two.

CurseForge Launcher Required This method uses the official CurseForge desktop app. Requires a free CurseForge account and a valid, paid Minecraft account. Download it at curseforge.com/download/app.
1

Install CurseForge Launcher

Download and install the CurseForge App. Sign in with your CurseForge account and make sure Minecraft is set up under the Games section.

2

Download the CurseForge Archive

Go to the Downloads page, find the latest release, and download the file ending in _CurseForge.zip.

3

Import via the "Import" Button

In the CurseForge app, go to Minecraft → Create Custom Profile, then click the Import button (it may appear as a folder icon near the top of the My Modpacks section). Select the downloaded ZIP. CurseForge will install all mods automatically.

4

Adjust RAM & Play

Click the three-dot menu on the NT:NH profile → Profile Options. Enable custom memory settings and set at least 4096 MB. Then click Play.

Modrinth App Required This method uses the Modrinth launcher - free and open-source. Requires a paid Minecraft account. Download it at modrinth.com/app.
1

Install the Modrinth App

Download the Modrinth App for your platform and sign in with your Microsoft account during setup.

2

Download the Modrinth Archive

Visit the Downloads page and grab the file ending in _Modrinth.mrpack from the latest release.

3

Import the .mrpack File

In the Modrinth App, click the + button and choose Import from file. Select the .mrpack file. All mods will be downloaded automatically.

4

Set RAM & Launch

Click the NT:NH instance → EditJava Settings and allocate at least 4 GB. Then press Play.

Technic Launcher Required This method uses the Technic Launcher with the official NT:NH modpack page. Requires a paid Minecraft account. Download Technic at technicpack.net/download.
1

Install the Technic Launcher

Download and install the Technic Launcher for your platform. Sign in with your Minecraft account during setup.

2

Open the Modpack Page

In the Technic Launcher, click Modpacks and search for nuclear-tech-new-horizons, or paste the modpack URL directly:

https://www.technicpack.net/modpack/nuclear-tech-new-horizons
3

Install & Configure RAM

Click Install on the NT:NH page. Once installed, go to Launcher Options → Java Settings and set memory to at least 4096 MB.

4

Play

Select NT:NH from your modpack list and hit Play. The launcher handles all mod downloads automatically.

Manual / Pirated Launcher Method The Native archive is a raw dump of all modpack files with no launcher structure. This method works with any launcher - including KLauncher, TLauncher, and Legacy Launcher - since you copy files directly into your .minecraft folder.
1

Download the Native Archive

Go to the Downloads page and download the file ending in _Native.zip from the latest release.

2

Locate Your .minecraft Folder

Open your launcher and find the game directory, or navigate manually:

  Windows: %APPDATA%\.minecraft
  macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
  Linux: ~/.minecraft

If your launcher manages multiple instances, use that instance's game directory instead of the default one.

3

Extract and Copy All Files

Open the Native ZIP and copy all files and folders directly into your .minecraft folder, merging with any existing content. You should end up with a mods/ folder, config/ folder, etc. inside .minecraft.

Do not put everything inside a subfolder. The contents of the ZIP go directly into .minecraft, not into a nested folder inside it.
4

Install Forge & Launch

Make sure your launcher is set to use the correct Forge version for 1.7.10 (the release notes on GitHub list the exact Forge build required). Allocate at least 4 GB RAM in your launcher's JVM arguments, then start the game.

Launcher Comparison

Quick reference for which archive format to use with which launcher, and which launchers require a paid Minecraft account.

Launcher Archive to Use Paid Account? Notes
Prism Launcher MMC_Prism CurseForge Modrinth Required Open-source. Supports all three import formats. MMC_Prism preferred. Does not support Native.
MultiMC MMC_Prism Required Prism is a fork of MMC. Both support the same archive format.
CurseForge App CurseForge Required Import via the Import button on the My Modpacks page.
Modrinth App Modrinth Required Import the .mrpack file via the + button.
Technic Launcher Technic Required Install directly from the NT:NH Technic page. No archive download needed.
KLauncher / TLauncher / Legacy Launcher Native Not Required Extract the Native ZIP into your .minecraft directory manually.
Any other launcher Native Varies The Native method works universally for any launcher not listed here.
Why Prism Launcher? Prism is free, open-source, and runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It bundles its own Java, handles RAM settings per-instance, and can import CurseForge, MMC/Prism, and Modrinth archives. If you don't have a preference, start here.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common causes are wrong Java version (must be Java 8 64-bit) or not enough RAM allocated. Confirm in your launcher's settings that Java 8 is selected, and that maximum memory is at least 4096 MB. If the crash persists, open the crash report (in .minecraft/crash-reports/) and paste it in the #support channel on Discord.
The modpack itself works with unofficial launchers (KLauncher, TLauncher, Legacy Launcher). Use the Native archive and follow the manual installation steps above. Note that our official multiplayer server requires a legitimate account to connect.
If you're using CurseForge, MultiMC, Modrinth, or Prism Launcher, you can use their built-in update feature, which keeps your worlds and settings intact while updating the modpack. For unofficial launchers, you'll need to delete the old folders from the Native.zip archive and replace them with the new ones, as mods are frequently added or removed.
4 GB (4096 MB) is the minimum. 5–6 GB is ideal for smooth gameplay. More than 8 GB is generally counterproductive for 1.7.10 and can cause longer garbage-collection pauses. If you have 16 GB of system RAM, allocating 5–6 GB to Minecraft is a sensible target.
Always prefer the MMC_Prism archive when using Prism Launcher or MultiMC - it's the native format and the most reliable. Prism also accepts CurseForge and Modrinth archives if that's what you have. The Native archive cannot be imported into Prism - it is a raw file dump intended for manual installation only.
The game includes a default list of multiplayer servers. For unofficial community servers not listed by default, check the official Discord server where they are posted.
Use the GitHub Issues page and pick the appropriate template. Include your NT:NH version, a description of the bug, steps to reproduce it, and any relevant crash reports or logs. You can also ask in Discord first to confirm it's a known issue.
